At some point in the past these demonstrators were all given to the {{pll|Railway Museum|Derail Valley Railway Museum}}, their righteous owner. However, since the museum has been closed, the locomotives have been highly neglected.

In order to use the demonstrators, you need to find and restore them. They are scattered around the {{pll|World Map|world}} and their locations are randomized with each session, with a high likelihood to be hidden somewhere within stations.

Demonstrators are {{pll|Private Locomotives|private locomotives}}, which makes them advantageous in comparison to regular DVRT locomotives. They can be {{pll|Comms Radio Work Train|requested with comms radio}}, they never {{pll|Abandoning Vehicles|despawn}} and they look special. Like all {{pll|Work Trains Overview|work trains}}, demonstrators are best suitable for customization with {{pll|Paint Job|paint jobs}}, {{pll|Gadget Installation|gadgets}} and {{pll|Train Parts Overview|train parts}}.

To be able to access a demonstrator, you need the {{pll|Museum|Museum license}}, as well as the respective {{pll|Licenses Overview|license}} for that type of vehicle. For each of the demonstrators there is a dedicated {{pll|Track ID Signs|track}} in the museum building. Next to the track there is a panel with exact steps on how to restore it.

The process involves {{pll|Coupling|towing}} the vehicle to the museum, supplying it with missing {{pll|Train Parts Overview|parts}} using {{pll|Utility Vehicles|utility vehicles}}, {{pll|Manual Service|servicing}} it, and finally giving it a {{pll|Paint Job|paint job}}.

Only once it has been fully repaired, a restored demonstrator gains features of a work train.
