Message definition (Cutoff)

Cutoff is a control device found on {{pll|Steam Overview|steam engines}}. Typically, it's a lever or a wheel, that sets how long during a gear cycle the steam will be admitted from the {{pll|Regulator|steam chest}} to the {{pll|Cylinder Cocks|cylinders}}. When the cutoff is pushed all the way forward, the steam is admitted almost all the time during a cycle, whereas when it's near the center position, the steam is admitted only for a small fraction of the cycle.

カットオフは蒸気機関車に搭載されている制御装置です。通常はレバーまたはホイールで、ギアサイクル中に蒸気室からシリンダーへ蒸気が供給される時間を設定します。カットオフを一番前まで押し込むと、サイクル中ほぼ常に蒸気が供給されますが、中央付近にすると、サイクルのごく一部しか蒸気が供給されません。
