Message definition (Braking Overview)

Brakes are devices found on {{pll|Rail Vehicle Types|rail vehicles}} designed to slow them down, bring them to a halt, or keep them stationary. There are several different types of braking systems that are typically present on motorized and other rolling stock, with each offering advantages for a specific purpose. They are each operated by respective control devices, usually levers or cranks that may be located inside the vehicle's {{pll|Rail Vehicle Types|cab}}, or on its exterior.

軔機（即煞車）是安裝在軌道車輛上，用於使車輛減速、停下、或維持車輛靜止的裝置。動力車輛和其他軌道車輛通常搭載著幾種不同的軔機系統，這些不同的軔機系統各自適用於不同情境。它們能分別以位於駕駛室內或車輛外部的操縱桿或舵輪進行操作。
