Message definition (Regulator)
Regulator is a control device found in {{pll|Steam Overview|steam engines}}. It serves a similar function to {{pll|Throttle|throttle}} in other {{pll|Powertrains Overview|powertrain types}}. Regulator sets the flow of {{pll|Steam Overview|steam}} from the {{pll|Boiler|boiler}} to the steam chest. Steam chest is an intermediary reservoir from where it can be admitted, using {{pll|Cutoff|cutoff}}, to the vehicle's {{pll|Cylinder Cocks|cylinders}} and propel the vehicle.

Using the regulator control device (equivalent to throttle in other motorized vehicle types), the driver sets the amount of steam being admitted from the boiler to the steam chest. Steam chest is an intermediary reservoir from where the steam finally reaches the vehicle's cylinders.
