加減弁

加減弁は蒸気機関に搭載されている制御装置です。他の種類の動力伝達システムにおけるスロットルと同様の機能を持ちます。加減弁は、ボイラーから蒸気室への蒸気の流れを調整します。蒸気室は中間の蒸気の貯蔵庫であり、そこからカットオフを介して蒸気が車両のシリンダーに供給され、車両を推進します。
The regulator does not directly control a vehicle's acceleration. Rather, steam chest in combination with cutoff does, which is why it has a dedicated gauge to read pressure from. When the regulator is closed, steam stops flowing to the chest, but the vehicle stills accelerate until the chest runs out.
Delay in regulator operation doesn't need to exist only when closing it. If a vehicle uses an early version of superheaters, time it takes from opening the regulator until the steam chest start charging is delayed, too.
