I mezzi d'opera sono rotabili privati che possono essere acquisiti e usati in aggiunta a quelli forniti da DVRT . Questi sono:

Per sbloccare alcuni dei mezzi speciali devi acquistare delle chiavi per delle speciali rimesse nei negozi , trovare le rimesse ed aprirle. Per altri, come ad esempio le private locomotives , il processo è differente.

Essendo di proprietà privata, i mezzi speciali non passano dal sistema assicurativo . Devono essere invece manutenute manualmente .

Once acquired, work trains can be used at will, and never despawn . Because of this, work trains are particularly suitable for customization with paint jobs , gadgets and train parts .

Work trains are typically able to be requested anywhere with the comms radio in work train mode , sometimes for a fee . If a work train is cleared with comms radio , it will go back to its default parking location.

Some work trains need to be unlocked in career mode , in order to become available in sandbox mode . In career there's usually a single instance of each work train type in the world. In sandbox, however, many instances may be spawned .
